My Journey through SB

by Mukul Dharwadkar posted at 2006-10-13 14:22 last modified 2006-10-13 14:22

My association with SB did not start with school. It was more of a family thing. My great grandfather was one of the first founding members / teachers of the school when it was run out of small shacks. My grandfather was a well known patron of the school and if I am not wrong was a trustee at some point of time. My father and uncles all studied in SB. My elder sister and brother both did their schooling in SB. So it was a given that I would go to SB for my schooling. I was destined for SB.

But personally my association with SB started with 5th standard as I am sure is the case with many of the guys out here. I was very excited to go to school on the first day of 5th standard as it would have given me the opportunity to go to school by city bus all by myself. I was a big boy now. My sister, brother and parents had all told me which bus to take, on which stop to board and at which stop to alight. So I was all confident of doing it right.

I reached school without incident (I don't remember much of the journey though, so I guess must've been uneventful) and the first thing on hand was to find the classroom I was supposed to sit in. I was informed that the 5th standard (all divisions) was supposed to convene in the Balak Mandir building which is / was across the street from the main building. So I went there and started the search for 5th 'F'. There was total chaos. Kids and parents running around looking for the right classroom and shouting at each other trying to locate the room. There were no signs anywhere (Gosh!! I am so americanised.). Not able to make any sense, I thought I would ask someone for the right classroom and so I asked another boy whether he knew where 5th F was. Coincidently he was also of 5th standard and was looking for classroom for F division. He was Anant Jukkalkar. We both figured out which room to go into and so he became my first friend in SB. I don't recollect much after that as it was total chaos as boys and girls (!!!) started streaming in our classroom.

And so started my very memorable and fruitful journey through SB. I don't have many memories of those days, but I will try to recollect as much as I can. Maybe some of you can help me in this by pitching in where ever I miss or make an error.

What do you think? Do you think this is a good idea? Encourage me or ask me stop by leaving comments or writing emails to me / group.

I studied in Sharda Mandir. Your weblog took me to the golden old days of my schooling.
